Trauma isn’t just about what happened—it’s about what the nervous system had to do to survive. When experiences were overwhelming or unsafe, the body developed strategies to protect you. Those strategies often continue long after the situation has passed. Therapy helps your nervous system slowly experience safety again so those patterns don’t have to work as hard.
EMDR therapy helps the brain process traumatic or distressing experiences that may still feel “stuck” in the nervous system. Through guided bilateral stimulation and careful pacing, EMDR allows the brain to reprocess these memories so they become less overwhelming and more integrated.
EMDR is always done at a pace that prioritizes safety and nervous system regulation.
